Bitstamp customers are moving to the Robinhood app
On 28 September 2026 Bitstamp announced a change for retail customers of Bitstamp Europe in the EEA and Switzerland:
- From 15 October 2026, Bitstamp starts inviting certain retail users to use their account through the Robinhood app. Other eligible users follow later, in phases.
- The first group has until 14 November 2026 to connect. After that, the old Bitstamp interface becomes read-only for them: history and statements stay visible, but trading moves to the Robinhood app.
- According to Bitstamp, only the way you access your account changes. Bitstamp Europe stays your contractual counterparty and service provider, your crypto and euros stay with Bitstamp Europe, and you do not need to move funds.
- Institutional and corporate clients are not part of this change.
The announcement does not mention fees. This page shows Bitstamp's published fee schedule, and we will update it if EU customers pay different fees in the Robinhood app.
Basic or Pro: two price models in one app
| Basic | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| How the price is set | A fixed quote: the order-book price plus a spread | Your order meets other orders on the order book |
| What you pay | 1.8% spread (0.5% for stablecoins), plus 0–0.5% in volatile markets | 0.40% taker or 0.30% maker below $10,000 of 30-day volume |
The Basic spread has two parts. The fixed part is 1.8% for most crypto. On top of that, Bitstamp can add a volatility spread of up to 0.5% when markets move fast; in calm markets it is zero. Bitstamp itself points out that, because the quote is fixed, Basic can cost more than placing the same order on the order book. Our comparison uses the fixed 1.8%, so at a volatile moment Basic can cost more than we show.
Pro fees fall as your trading volume over the last 30 days grows, measured in US dollars. At the lowest tier, a €100 market order costs €0.40 in fees, plus the gap between buy and sell prices on the order book at that moment. In our advanced trading mode we simulate exactly that against Bitstamp's live order book; see how we compare.
Euros in and out
| Transaction | Bitstamp fee |
|---|---|
| SEPA deposit, also SEPA Instant | Free |
| SEPA withdrawal | €3 |
| Instant purchase by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay | 4% |
Your card issuer may add its own fee to a card purchase. Two smaller rules are worth knowing: the minimum order on euro markets is €10, and if you close your account with less than €25 in euros, Bitstamp does not return that balance.
Licence and track record
- Licence: Bitstamp Europe S.A. has been authorised by Luxembourg's CSSF since 15 May 2025. According to ESMA's interim MiCA register, its services cover all 30 EEA countries and include operating a trading platform, which is the order book behind Pro. The full list of licensed platforms is on MiCA-licensed exchanges.
- Ownership: Robinhood completed its acquisition of Bitstamp on 2 June 2025.
- The 2015 hack: in January 2015 some of Bitstamp's operational wallets were compromised and less than 19,000 bitcoin was lost. Bitstamp said at the time that bitcoin held with it before it suspended service would be honoured in full.
Who Bitstamp suits
Bitstamp publishes both its Basic spread and its Pro fees, so you can see exactly what each mode costs. The difference between them is large: 1.8% in Basic against 0.40% in Pro at the lowest tier. Free SEPA deposits keep the cost of paying in low, while withdrawals cost €3 and card purchases 4%. The move to the Robinhood app may change how you use the account in the coming months. For your coin, for example Ethereum, the live table above shows how Bitstamp compares with platforms such as Kraken and OKX.
