€100 from euro balance in advanced trading, at 19:25 CEST. Fees = all costs together (trading fee, markup and the difference from the market price). Rank 1 is where you get the most crypto. Coinbase does not publish its fees in the simple app, so here we compare its advanced trading view, where the fees are public.

Why a simple buy has no fixed price list

When you buy through the normal Coinbase screen, you pay two things: a Coinbase fee and a spread built into the quoted price. Coinbase calculates both at the moment you place the order. According to its pricing disclosures, they depend on your payment method, the order size, the coin, market conditions, where you live and Coinbase's own costs. You see the total in the order preview, and you can tap the price line to see the spread.

Three details matter for comparing:

Orders are executed on the Coinbase Exchange order book or through auctions, and Coinbase says it takes no payment for order flow. Still, without a published percentage nobody can calculate the cost of a simple buy in advance. That is why our comparison does not rank the simple Coinbase buy.

Coinbase Advanced: the order book view

Coinbase Advanced uses the same account but lets you trade directly on the order book. There is no spread on top; you pay a maker or taker fee. Since 16 September 2026, the entry tier for EU customers is 0.25% for makers and 0.50% for takers, and the first cheaper tier starts at $10,000 of qualifying volume. Volume is counted in US dollars, and the full tier table is only visible after you sign in.

For Coinbase, our comparison therefore simulates a market order on Coinbase Advanced: 0.50% plus the actual prices in the order book. On €100, that is €0.50 in fees plus the cost of the spread at that moment, shown per coin in the table above.

In Poland you can also buy with BLIK. Coinbase says SEPA transfers in euros have no fees. For other methods it only states that a fee may apply, shown before you confirm. In our comparison, Coinbase therefore appears without a figure for "card", and "euro balance" assumes your euros are already on Coinbase.

Licence and safety

Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. has been authorised by the CSSF since 20 June 2025, and ESMA's register shows its licence passported to all 30 EEA countries. Your euro balance is e-money issued by Coinbase Ireland Limited, which must keep customer money separate from its own. The user agreement states that neither crypto nor e-money is covered by a deposit guarantee or investor compensation scheme. Coinbase's crime insurance covers part of the crypto it holds against theft, but not losses after someone gets into your account with your login details.

On 6 November 2025 the Central Bank of Ireland fined Coinbase Europe Limited €21,464,734, because faults in its transaction monitoring had left more than 30 million transactions inadequately checked in the period 2021 to 2025. More on licences in our MiCA-licensed exchanges overview.

Who Coinbase suits

The simple screen trades transparency for convenience: you see the full price per order, but not a rate you can check beforehand. Coinbase Advanced publishes its rates and has no spread on top. Whether it is cheaper than other platforms for your purchase depends on the coin; see the live figures for ethereum, xrp or the full comparison.

Questions about Coinbase

How much are Coinbase fees in Europe?

For a simple buy, Coinbase charges a fee plus a spread, both calculated when you place the order and shown in the preview. They depend on your payment method, order size, the coin, market conditions and where you live. On Coinbase Advanced the EU entry tier is 0.25% for makers and 0.50% for takers, with no spread.

Does Coinbase charge for SEPA transfers?

No. Coinbase says SEPA bank transfers in euros have no fees, for both adding cash and cashing out. They take one to three business days. Other methods, such as cards, may carry a fee that Coinbase shows before you confirm.

What is the difference between Coinbase and Coinbase Advanced?

Both use the same account. The simple Coinbase buy screen quotes a price that includes a spread and a fee. Coinbase Advanced lets you trade on the order book with market and limit orders, charges a published maker or taker fee and adds no spread.

Is Coinbase regulated in the EU?

Yes. Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. has been authorised under MiCA by the CSSF since 20 June 2025, and ESMA's register shows the licence covering all 30 EEA countries. Euro balances are e-money issued by Coinbase Ireland Limited, supervised by the Central Bank of Ireland.

Can I buy crypto on Coinbase with a card?

Yes, with a card that supports 3D Secure. Prepaid, reloadable, secured and business cards are not accepted. Apple Pay and Google Pay also work for purchases once a Visa or Mastercard debit card is linked. Coinbase does not publish a fixed card fee; you see it in the preview.

Does Coinbase One remove all fees?

No. Coinbase One is a subscription that removes the trading fee on simple buys and sells within certain limits, but a spread can still be included in the price. It also does not cover the separate 1% fee on simple limit orders.
