How Bitvavo charges you
When you buy on Bitvavo, your order is matched with orders from other users in its order book. You pay two things.
- A trading fee of at most 0.25%. It depends on the order type and your 30-day trading volume, not on which screen you use: the simple buy screen and Pro Mode, the advanced view with order book and charts, share one fee schedule.
- The spread in the order book. A market order buys from the cheapest sellers available at that moment. Bitvavo says this price difference "does not go to Bitvavo". It warns you when the spread is above 0.75% and blocks market orders when it is above 2%, so you can switch to a limit order.
On €100 bought with a market order, the fee is at most €0.25. The table above shows the total cost per coin, spread included, at the time of our last check.
The price guarantee costs extra
In the app you can choose a price guarantee order. Your price is then fixed for up to 5 seconds, and you trade against Inveniam B.V., a company in the Bitvavo group, which adds a markup to the mid-price. Bitvavo does not publish the size of that markup. Some smaller coins can only be traded this way. If the price guarantee is your default order type, your costs will differ from ours, because our comparison always uses a market order.
Depositing and withdrawing euros
| Method | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SEPA bank transfer | Free | About 2 working days from a bank outside the Netherlands |
| Bancontact or EPS | Free | Instant, up to €10,000 per deposit |
| Credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay | 1% | Instant; Visa and Mastercard only, no prepaid or business cards |
| PayPal | 1% | Instant, up to €10,000 |
| Euro withdrawal | Free | To a linked bank account; about 2 business days outside the Netherlands |
A deposit by card, Apple Pay, PayPal or Bancontact does not verify a bank account. You can only withdraw euros once you have also used another deposit method, such as a SEPA transfer. Which methods you see depends on your country; SEPA works everywhere Bitvavo operates.
In our comparison, "euro balance" means the money is already in your account, so deposit costs are not included. The "card" option adds Bitvavo's 1% card fee.
Which countries Bitvavo serves
Bitvavo accepts people who live in the SEPA zone. Its help centre lists 24 supported countries, among them Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden (checked 12 October 2026). Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Iceland and Liechtenstein are not on that list, even though ESMA's register shows Bitvavo's licence covering all 30 EEA countries. Hungary is not listed either, but in August 2026 Bitvavo said new sign-ups from Hungary would reopen on 7 September 2026, after Hungary repealed a local rule that conflicted with MiCA.
The platform is available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Transfers to and from banks outside the Netherlands take about one working day longer than Dutch ones.
Licence and safety
Bitvavo B.V., launched in 2018, has held a MiCA licence from the AFM since 26 June 2025, covering custody, transfers and the operation of a trading platform according to ESMA's register. Bitvavo says customer crypto is held through Stichting Bitvavo Payments, a foundation separate from Bitvavo B.V., and that most of it is kept in cold storage with insured custodians. An independent accounting firm checks its reserves for selected assets every quarter. Compare its licence with the others in our overview of MiCA-licensed exchanges.
Who Bitvavo suits
Bitvavo publishes a clear maximum fee and adds no markup to a market order, so you know the fee on a purchase before you make it. The trade-offs: the price guarantee and some small coins carry an unpublished markup, card top-ups cost 1%, and a few EEA countries are missing from its country list. Whether it is the cheapest option for your coin and amount changes daily; see the live table above or compare all platforms for bitcoin, ethereum and more.
Questions about Bitvavo
How much are Bitvavo fees?
Bitvavo charges a trading fee of at most 0.25% per executed order. The rate falls as your trading volume over the last 30 days grows, and Bitvavo recalculates your tier every night. On a market order Bitvavo adds no markup of its own; the gap between buy and sell orders in the order book is a market cost.
Does Bitvavo charge for deposits?
A SEPA bank transfer is free, and so are Bancontact and EPS. Deposits by credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal cost 1%, which Bitvavo shows before you confirm.
Is Bitvavo available in my country?
Bitvavo accepts residents of the SEPA zone and lists 24 supported countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Austria and Ireland (checked 12 October 2026). Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Iceland and Liechtenstein are not on that list. A separate article says sign-ups from Hungary reopened on 7 September 2026.
Is Bitvavo regulated in the EU?
Yes. Bitvavo B.V. has been authorised as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA by the Dutch regulator AFM since 26 June 2025. ESMA's register lists the authorisation as covering all 30 EEA countries.
What is the Bitvavo price guarantee?
An optional order type that fixes your price for up to 5 seconds. You then trade against Inveniam B.V., a company in the Bitvavo group, which adds a spread to cover its risk. Bitvavo does not publish how large that spread is, so our comparison uses an ordinary market order.
Can I withdraw euros from Bitvavo for free?
Yes. Bitvavo does not charge for euro withdrawals, which go only to a bank account you have linked. A withdrawal to a bank outside the Netherlands takes about two business days.
